The Government Degree College, Amadalavalasa, was sanctioned in the year 1984 due to the efforts made by the then M.L.A. Sri Tammineni Seetharam. A committee was formed under the Chairmanship of Late Sri Vysyaraju Appala Raju, local businessman, and the committee was abolished after the establishment of the college.


        The Degree College was sanctioned through GO No. 509 dated 28-11-1984 of Higher Education Department. The college started functioning in the local Govt. Junior college premises from 17-12-1984 with B.A (History, Local self government, Politics combination) and B.Com with Telugu medium. Sri K. Subbaih Sastry was appointed as full fledged Principal with effect from 15-12-1984.The college was provided permanent affiliation in 1991 and recognized under UGC 12 B and 2F on 11-03-1992.The college has presently a strength of 274 , inclusive of 138 girl students . The college has been running on shift system since its inception , as the infrastructure facilities are a bare minimum having only 3 class rooms .Additional 5 rooms construction completed recently from the administrative sanction released by Commissioner of Collegiate Education ,Hyderabad of RS 33.90 Lacs. Recently constructed rooms opened on 06/02/2015.
