An Anti-Ragging Cell is a mandatory body in higher education institutions, as per guidelines issued by theUniversity Grants Commission (UGC) in India and other education authorities. Its primary aim is to ensure a ragging-free and safe environment for all students, especially freshers. Here are the key activities and responsibilities typically undertaken by Anti-Ragging Cells in UG colleges:
Vision
To build a ragging free environment by instilling the principles of democratic values, tolerance, empathy, compassion and sensitivity to that students become responsible citizens
Mission
To create an atmosphere of discipline by passing a clear message that no act of ragging in college premises.
Objectives of the Anti-Ragging Cell:
Preventragging in any form.
Raise awarenessamong students about the consequences of ragging.
Act promptlyon complaints or reports of ragging.
Support victimsof ragging.
Ensure compliancewith anti-ragging regulations from UGC or other governing bodies.
Every college must form an Anti-Ragging Cell.
Affidavits from students and parents are mandatory.
Display anti-ragging posters on campus.
Report serious cases to police if needed.
Awareness Campaigns
Organizing orientation programs for freshers and parents at the beginning of the academic year.
Distributing pamphlets, posters, banners, and booklets about anti-ragging policies.
Using college websites and notice boards to share UGC regulations and helpline numbers.
Conducting interactive sessions with students to build awareness.
Surveillance & Monitoring
Regular rounds by Anti-Ragging Squad in hostels, canteens, classrooms, corridors, and other common areas.
