The Department of Commerce in Government Degree College, Amadalavalasa
was started with the establishment of the college in 1984. The Department offers B.
Com course at undergraduate level. It is one of the important courses in the college.
Half of the strength of the college, contributed by this department. It stands as a pillar to
the college in all aspects. The department produced many eminent personalities in all
fields of public life. It sent many students to higher studies. Many members of Alumni
are serving as Auditors, Tax Consultants, Income Tax Practioners and some are
working as Advocates.


Some notable personalities include famous tax consultant Sri. B. Srinivasa Rao,
Sri. Chiranjeevi, Advocate and Smt. P. Ashta Lakshmi and Sri. S. Prasada Rao present faculty
members of the department.

Areas of Focus

The department focused its attention on strengthening the present B. Com
(Hons) course by increasing number of admissions and making the course industry
friendly and career oriented. In future the department is planning to introduce BBA and
M.Com courses in a phased manner. 


UGC introduced CBCS(Choice Based Credit System) course from the academic year 2015-2016 for 1st year students. In this year Two semesters and Four Mid exams are conducted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University. Every semester has 75 Marks External Theory exams and Every mid examination has 25 marks twice in a year.

In the academic year 2020-21 our APSCHE decided admissions through on OAMDC and allotted to colleges. In the same year APSCHE also decided to implement Continuous Internal Assesment (CIA)  in the place of Internal Examinations .

The Main objectives of the Department

·         To enable the commerce students to know various needs of industry and service sector

·         To equip them with computer knowledge and to enable them to know the growing importance of information technology in business sector

·         To enable the students to understand the day to day changes in commerce syllabus

·         To make them to recognize the growing importance of commerce and management in socio economic life

·         Being  the leading college in the commerce stream global department in education and adopting the latest technology (E-Class room, LMS, MOOCS). Improving  the standard  of the courses innovative and effective teaching methods and curriculum development.

·         Attracting conductive and motivating work environment through career guidance

·         Participating in and contributing to the formulation of public

·         The existing curriculum of the college lends itself to life skills(HVPE, Environmental Education , ICT, Analytical  skills) and skill development ( Insurance Promotion, Business Communication, Logistics and Supply chain management, Retailing )also

·         In this scenario according to NEP -2020 students is training  in field survey and make mini project(CSP) and they are in internship also in the period of 8 weeks
